Musician and Future Physician
Alex Rothstein is a saxophonist trained in classical, contemporary, and jazz music. After graduating from Huntingdon Area High School in 2018, he went on to study Jazz Saxophone Performance, Biology, and Biochemistry at Lawrence University. During his time at Lawrence, he was active in the Jazz Ensemble, Jazz Band, jazz combos, saxophone quartets and ensembles, Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and he was bass section leader for the Memorial Presbyterian Church Choir. He was involved in three Downbeat Award-winning performances by the LU Jazz Band and Jazz Ensemble. In May of 2022, he was awarded the Presser Foundation Undergraduate Scholar Award.
During Alex's college career, he had the pleasure of working alongside musicians such as Carl Allen, the Village Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, composer Jacob TV, Melissa Aldana, and others. Starting in July 2023, he will be pursuing his MD from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.

Alex has studied with State College saxophonist, composer, and educator Rick Hirsch, as well as Lawrence saxophone professors Steven Jordheim and Jose Encarnacion, jazz pianist Bill Carrothers, and composer/arranger Patty Darling.
